Basically there are very few scholarships in the US for international students. You will have to be able to prove that you have the money in the bank to finance your own education in order to get a student visa. Accommodations cost between $10,000 and $15,000 a year. Tuition is between $20,000 and $30,000 a year depending on where you go to school.
2 :
Are you applying to a university (not likely for sound engineer/audio engineer) or a trade/technical school? For trade/technical school, very highly unlikely there is any real financial aid available. For a university degree program, only 'highly unlikely' there is any real financial assistance available. Accommodation and other living expenses are never included in tuition, etc. School expenses will include tuition, fees, books and supplies, equipment (starting with laptop/notebook computer and printer). Living expenses include room & board on campus (where available) or: rent, utilities, groceries, transportation to/from campus & elsewhere, household supplies, clothing, laundry/dry cleaning, medical care & insurance, etc. No, you can no longer live in the US on a mere $2000/month. In major cities, you cannot survive on $3000/month. The real inflation rate is over 10% and rising rapidly. School costs are rising faster than inflation. Students are strictly prohibited from working. #2 reason for foreign student failure is insufficient funds for all school and living expenses. You will need a great deal of money. Whatever guidelines are given in the website for the school you are interested in, add another 20% for a more realistic estimate of what it is going to cost you.

Go to the bottom of the page and post in a country closer to South Africa, we do not even have the same cars here in the US. I would say try to post in Europe somewhere, I think they have the same cars as you listed there.

Don't expect much at all when it comes to making actual friends. They will be nice to you and smile and some may ask you why you are there. For the most part they will treat you like a pink elephant and pretend they don't see you at all. So you will most likely feel lonely and homesick, because no one will want anything to do with you.
4 :
I don't think anyone here can actually answer this for you since I doubt anyone here is from Ghana or South Africa.
5 :
i think this is a very bad question to ask. if you go there "expecting/looking for" predjudice, you will find it. Don't look for it and enjoy your trip. If not, then you will more than likely find it. Change your mindset.

Hmm, well in the street, I guess you would be looked at in different ways by different people, but I don't think you would have problems in university. Also in South Africa, there are lots of white people so it's not a problem. Don't know about Ghana. Anyways, at the end, any studying abroad is a good experience, so I hope you enjoy wherever you decide to go.

umm none at all racisms only high in America lol, their actually very friendly, little kids may come up to you though, lol

Africa is a fascinating continent, and I think you ought to choose Ghana over S Africa, because you'll be in for a lot bigger adventure, less racist legacy, and many of the Ghanaian people are actually well mannered and highly educated, plus instilled with a wry sense of humor, because they used to be loyal British Subjects..

Mrs. Leca gave you a partially correct answer. See how racist some folks really are. Not just whitey. Also, why the heck are you going to Africa. Are you a DWL? You could get killed if you don't befriend the right black folks or don't spend your time with whites. BTW if you are a DWL, might as well write your will. Check out the site "stuff black people don't like" and google it. Look up DWL which stands for Disingenious White Liberal. Learn and live.

Don't listen to these idiots. Africans are some of the friendliest people in the world; a couple years ago Nigeria was voted the happiest place nationwide! Expect to have fun and learn a new culture -- that is all!
11 :
If you stay in the touristy areas, you will be fine. If you try to assimilate into the culture with the locals, you might as well tattoo "rape target" on your forehead, as many black Africans these days believe that white females are whores, and that it is ok to rape them. This is due to how white females are the race who are most frequently sexualized in mainstream media, and who most frequently appear in widely distributed porn.
12 :
i agree with Jim south africa has a history of racism, the native/black africans there might not be receptive to white ppl at all. but ive known people from ghana, theyre very friendly and real. good luck!

honestly I don't know but why don't you go in a penpal site and look for people from both places talk to them ask them question...see what vibe you get from them here's a link to a penpal site http://www.interpals.net/index.php see what you can find out from talking to the locals and the way they treat you ! good luck ! :)

Hi, i'm a white girl and have been to Ghana several times and could not say anything bad! Its a beautiful country with great people. Generally you will be seen as rich and kids will come up to you and call you "obroni" which is twi and means white and is used for foreigners but is not meant any how bad. So just ignore it most times, ppl are open and will aks you where you're from and what brought you to Ghana etc.Ghana is very liberal and you wont be discreminated because of your gender, as for being white it just makes ppl curious as said before, just be yourself and open but also know what to ignore and not take too serious, as some guys may ask for your phone number, address and if you'd like to marry them, this is rather fun so you should be aware and know how to deal with it :) But it would be an amazing experience for you i am sure! Anymore questions dont hesitate and mail me. Try to look at ~ ghanablogger.com or tripadvisor.com Good Luck

Should teachers in South Africa be given the right to arm themselves in school?

Township teachers in South Africa are demanding guns to protect themselves against hoodlums and students. What's your take on this?

What, so they can shoot the students back? So they can have gun fights in the playground? They are treating the situation incorrectly. Guns, i.e. violence, are not the solution, it would just cause more hatred and violence. If teachers have guns, they are actually saying that they accept violence as a solution to any problem. These kids have been brought up in a violent enviroment, I think the solution would be to teach them that there is another way of life out there. Maybe we send them to boarding schools, like Boys Town? That would at least remove them from their enviroment. Once again, it comes down to the government not paying enough attention to our children and their education. Brad & Great Blistering Barnacles: Why are you blaming liberation? It had to happen, and in of itself is a good thing. Yes, it's stupid to place liberation before education, they should be implemented at the same time, but please, give liberty a break.

yes. if they are threatened by a teen gangster with a gun, they should be able to pop a cap in his @ss as punishment....

This is not a question that I thought I would answer 20 years ago when I went to school. Hectic!! Our idea of speaking out against the establishment was .... well nothing. We didnĂ‚´t dare! 6 cuts in the principleĂ‚´s office was not my idea of fun, and besides if we were to be expelled it would put our parents in quite a predicament, as we could only go to schools in our residential zones. The alternative would then be to go to a technical school and lose the possibility of a university or technikon entrance. What happened to the respect for school and the teachers? Certainly a system whereby teachers are allowed to carry weapons can not work, especially when according to some surveys done teachers are responsible for a lot of the rapes that occur in the schools already. A short term solution is that students should only be able to enter the school through secured entrances with weapons checks. And the longer term solution is education at home and especially at beginner school about respect for your fellow man, his possessions and the laws and system of the (hopefully honest) authority in place.

Thats ridiculous!!! Guns cause more problems than they solve... Why cant security be upped at schools? Townships I'm sure have police stations and the SAPS could work hand in hand with schools to stop this...
6 :
Perhaps you are just indicating the sorry state of affairs South Africa has become. It is incomprehensible for a civilised Society to contemplate armed Teachers in the classroom and if they are at risk then just what are the pupils exposed to. There have already been a number of murders in SA schools over the last few months as well as some horrific assaults. It is well known that drug dealers hang around schools and have their own distributors on the playgrounds. It is horrendous what is happening to South African school kids and one can only wonder what the next generation of Adults will be like.
7 :
it's not really right to be armed at school but regarding the crime rate. anyways, as long as they're allowed to do it there will never be peace!
8 :
would you also suggest that since 2006 there were about 10 shooting incidence in some schools in US especially in high schools,so students and teachers should be allowed to take arms to school?????????????????
9 :
Ah...the sweet sound of liberation from those white bastards! Power to the people! Amandla Awetu! They got the paradise they wanted. This is what the struggle was all about, isn't it?
10 :
Kick the hoodlums out of school. Stop treating them like human beings because they clearly cannot relate to anyone in a civilized manner. This is what you get when you choose liberation before education, why does everyone seem surprised?
11 :
Being a student myself I think it would be appropriate at times. Teachers face a lot of abuse from students and there is nothing hey can do. The DoE protects students too much by coming up with all sorts of formalities in order to get a kid kicked out of school. Some parents are to blame because when kids misbehave, they stick up for them. It is absolute rubbish!
