Go to uscis.gov. There are several ways. Probably the easiest is a bona-fide marriage to a US citizen, and that's not really super easy. Your question is really wide open. If you are trying to get a green card so you can get in-state tuition in Florida, forget it. That will not happen. If you are studying medicine or engineering and want to live in the US permanently, that could be a much different picture. The US makes it much easier for immigrants with skills that are badly needed. On the other hand, if you are studying world literature or philosophy or art history, um, not so easy. Now, as for the working thing - if you need to earn money to help pay a few bills while you are in school, you can apply for an employment authorization card. As long as you are still enrolled in school, you can work up to 20 hours a week while school is in session. Download form I-765 and the instructions will explain what you need to do to get the permit.

Permanent Residence can be obtained through petition of either immediate family member or employment by US Employer. http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1326.html http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=4f719c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=4f719c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD
