I'm looking to do my internship in South Africa. Any tips for finding housing. Is it an expensive country?
Hey, I'm a marketing student looking to do my internship in South Africa. However I find it hard to find a good place to stay (which isn't too expensive). I'm also wondering if it is an expensive country. I'm from Holland so my currency is the Euro.

I want to study abroad, i'm considering south africa is it expensive?
As an international student, i'm looking for a good College, with an inexpensive tuition fee, maximum may bee $15,000 a year. i know there are several good universities in south africa, like the cape town , and also Johannesburg university. so i would like to know if the tuition fee plus the living expenses are expensive how would you convert a 32000R in dollars, hope you can help. btw i can also speak fluent dutch if that is any help?

I study at Stellenbosch University and my expenses this year was about R40 000 (about $5300). I am living in a student residence and this is the cheapest way to live for students, but you need good grades to get in as there are only a number of places. If you are going to live in a flat, then your living expenses will be higher. R32 000 is equal to about $4300. I'd say, seeing as you are converting from dollars you will be winning all the way, as the exhange rate now is about $1 to R7.47. If people are at university then they will be able to speak English, but seeing as you can speak fluent Dutch, this will help you a lot in learning Afrikaans.

Mr. M...South Africa Exchange?

Mr. M...South Africa Exchange?
I read your question about South Africa exchange. I was a foreign exchange student to Switzerland with YFU. I looked at South Africa--but didn't want to speak English. I wanted to learn a second language. I had a wonderful year and experience with YFU. Now I volunteer with exchange students in the U.S. as well. I would love to host a student from South Africa someday! Since I wanted to go to South Africa--my mom was also learly of sending her teenager to Africa for a year so another reason why I was in western Europe--I went when I was 23 for 6 months to South Africa! I was in the western cape. It was a wonderful place to go! Last week I was talking to another friend who was an exchange student with Rotary to Sweden. We both said we'd love to have a second year as an exchange student. If I could have gone for round two--I said I'd go to South Africa. (She said Denmark) While I was there, I learned some Afrikaans and spent sometime at my good friend from Namibia's house with her Afrikaaner family. But If I was an exchange student--I'd want to be in an Afrikaaner family. They are great people, and the language is fun to speak and learn. It's a gorgeous country too!! Hope you read this and helps you out!!!!

Exchange to South Africa?

Exchange to South Africa?
Next year I will be a foreign exchange student to South Africa (I'm from US), and I was wondering what their school systems were like? For instance, what sports do they offer? Do all their schools require uniforms? Also, what are some of the traditional foods in South Africa?

The school system, as far as I know, is very similar to the British system. You haven't mentioned what level of school you are going to, but I presume it is high school. Most high schools, even private ones, will require a summer and a winter school uniform. The sports will depend on what school you go to, and whether or not it is a co-ed school. If you want more information, feel free to send me an e-mail and ask some more questions. :)
